# CrimeMapsUK > Street-crime and stop-and-search records published by police forces on data.police.uk under the Open Government Licence v3.0, shown as dashboards, maps, and pages for postcode districts, postcode sectors, and police force areas, with PDF reports for the 0.5 km around a postcode. Notes for anyone quoting these figures: - Coverage follows data.police.uk: the police forces of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, plus British Transport Police. Scotland is not covered. Each force publishes street crime and stop and search separately, each with its own first and last published month, so a force that stopped publishing one of them has an earlier last month for that dataset. - Locations are approximate. The Home Office snaps each published record to an anonymous map point before release, so a record is never an exact incident address. - Street-crime records are recorded crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) incidents published by police forces, not all crime experienced. Recent months may be revised. - Postcode district and sector pages assign each record to the district or sector of its nearest postcode centroid (ONS postcode data). Near boundaries the assignment is indicative. A district or sector is a postal area, not a town or council area: the CM (Chelmsford) postcode area includes districts outside Chelmsford. - Council area pages cover English and Welsh local authority districts. Each record counts for the council area of its nearest postcode, using the ONS Postcode Directory's council codes. A council area covers the whole area a council runs, which can differ from the town or city it is named after. - Rates: district, sector, council area, and force pages show published street-crime records per 1,000 usual residents in the Census 2021, England and Wales only, with residents summed from the same postcodes the records are assigned to. A rate is withheld when the last 12 months are not 12 consecutive published months, when the area or its force is in a publication gap, when fewer than 1,000 residents live there, when more than 10% of its records sit at postcodes newer than the census, when no residents are recorded for its postcodes, while its sector records are being rebuilt, when a force policing a tenth or more of its Census 2021 residents has no records for a month of its window, or when a tenth or more of its postcodes are policed by a force that data.police.uk lists as publishing no street-level crime while that force is missing recent months. A residents-only rate reads high where many people visit who do not live there. Report circles have no resident rate. - Rankings order postcode districts, and within a force postcode sectors, by that same rate, with counts beside every rate, for areas with at least 5,000 residents. Each force page also ranks the council areas inside the force, such as the London boroughs, by the rate each council area page shows. They are not safety ratings. - The change against the previous 12 months is shown only when 24 consecutive months are published. - Outcome shares are descriptive summaries of published police outcomes, not conviction rates. The stop-and-search find rate is the share of loaded records whose outcome is one of: arrest, caution, community resolution, summons, article found, penalty notice, khat or cannabis warning. It does not show whether a search was justified. - To cite an area page, give the page URL, the months shown, and the date you read it: each area page has a "Cite this page" block, and its figures change as new months are published. ## Area pages - [Crime by postcode district](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/districts/): find a district by code or full postcode; each district page links to the postcode sectors that have their own page and the forces that published its records. - [Crime by council area](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/council-areas/): 301 English and Welsh council areas (local authority districts), such as /crime/council-areas/adur/. A council area covers the whole area a council runs, which can differ from the town or city it is named after. Each page links to the postcode districts and sectors that have their own page and to neighbouring council areas. - [Crime by police force area](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/areas/): one page per force. City-named pages such as /crime/london/ cover the whole force area, and link to the council area pages inside it. - [England and Wales crime statistics](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/england-and-wales/): the 43 forces of England and Wales added up, by month and category, with the forces ranked by published crime rate. British Transport Police and Northern Ireland are left out, and a force missing months is named. - [Council areas ranked by published crime rate](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/rankings/council-areas/): English and Welsh council areas ranked by the rate each one's own page shows, with London's boroughs and each force's council areas as their own views. Council areas whose pages withhold a rate, and those with a note instead of a page because their force publishes no street-level crime (the Greater Manchester boroughs), are listed with the reason. - District and force pages with published figures, and sector pages with enough records to be indexed, offer them as CSV at the page URL followed by `records.csv`, for example https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/districts/e8/records.csv: the page's monthly totals and largest categories for its window, one area per file, with the source and licence in every row. - [Crime rate rankings](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/rankings/): postcode districts ranked by published records per 1,000 residents, England and Wales. ## Police force areas - [Manchester](https://crimemapsuk.com/crime/manchester/): Greater Manchester Police published no street-level crime records on data.police.uk for September 2025 to August 2026. The radius is stored as 0.31 miles, so the crime search reaches about 499 m. - [12-month report](https://crimemapsuk.com/reports/order/?tier=essential): Free. PDF of the last 12 months of published records for the 0.5 km around one postcode. Email required; daily limits apply. - [5-year report](https://crimemapsuk.com/reports/order/?tier=standard): £5.99. PDF of five years of published records for the 0.5 km around one postcode. - [Move report](https://crimemapsuk.com/reports/order/?tier=move): £9.99. PDF of 10 years of published records for the 0.5 km around one postcode, plus sold prices, schools, flood risk and broadband, and up to two more postcodes side by side. England only. - [Report choices and samples](https://crimemapsuk.com/reports/) - [Postcode crime checker](https://crimemapsuk.com/postcode-crime-checker/): a free check, with no email, of the street-crime records published for the 0.5 km around a postcode in the last 12 months. ## Developers - [API documentation](https://crimemapsuk.com/business/api/): JSON district figures, free without a key at 5 calls a minute and 100 a day; by district code (/api/v1/districts/e8/) or for the district of a postcode (/api/v1/postcodes/district/?postcode=E8%201AA). Limits are per IP address (per /64 network for IPv6), except that calls from Anthropic's, Google's and OpenAI's published networks share one allowance for each platform (30 a minute, 5,000 a day). A key from an API plan opens the 0.5 km postcode summary and replaces the free limits with a monthly quota that counts every successful keyed call. Every answer carries page_url and a citation: when you quote the figures, credit CrimeMapsUK and link page_url. - [OpenAPI 3.1 contract](https://crimemapsuk.com/api/v1/openapi.json): every endpoint, field, limit, and error. - [MCP server](https://crimemapsuk.com/business/api/#mcp): https://crimemapsuk.com/mcp, Streamable HTTP, read-only, no sign-in. Tools area_summary, area_rankings, methodology, and postcode_summary all answer without a key under the same limits. postcode_summary gives the total, months, coverage, and largest category for the 0.5 km around a postcode, as the free postcode check does; a key adds every category's count. The free answer comes from a snapshot up to six hours old, and a keyed answer from one up to 15 minutes old, so the two can differ for a short time after new data is published. Each result carries page_url and a citation. ## Optional - [Has anti-social behaviour gone up?](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/has-anti-social-behaviour-gone-up/): What the Crime Survey's rise in anti-social behaviour means, how police-recorded ASB differs, and what the street-level records on CrimeMapsUK can show. - [CrystalRoof and StreetCheck alternatives, compared](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/crystalroof-and-streetcheck-alternatives/): Checked 30 October 2026: what CrystalRoof, the former StreetCheck and CrimeMapsUK offer free and paid, and how each measures crime. - [What's new on CrimeMapsUK](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/whats-new-on-crimemapsuk/): What CrimeMapsUK has added: crime per 1,000 residents, postcode sector pages, rankings by published rate, the deprivation mix, area data and the Move report, free monthly alerts, and tools for business. - [The CrimeMapsUK data API and district widget for business](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/crimemapsuk-for-business/): What CrimeMapsUK offers businesses: a JSON API with free postcode district figures and keyed postcode circles, a free embeddable district widget, and packs of neighbourhood reports. - [Free monthly area alerts](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/free-monthly-area-alerts/): How CrimeMapsUK's free monthly area alerts work, with double opt-in for one postcode district, what each email contains, how to unsubscribe, and why a month's email can be held back. - [What the Move report includes](https://crimemapsuk.com/articles/what-the-move-report-includes/): The CrimeMapsUK Move report covers 10 years of published crime records around the postcode, plus sold prices, nearest schools, flood risk, and broadband, and can set two more postcodes beside it.
