England and Wales
England and Wales crime statistics
Published street-crime records from the 43 police forces of England and Wales, on data.police.uk. Scotland and Northern Ireland are not included.
Updated October 2026.
Police published 5,718,033 street-crime records for England and Wales from September 2025 to August 2026, an incomplete total with 2 of 43 forces missing months. Police locations are approximate.
Our tables hold no street-level crime records from Gloucestershire Constabulary for February 2026, March 2026, April 2026, May 2026, June 2026, July 2026, August 2026, so its area is not counted in those months. Greater Manchester Police published no street-level crime records on data.police.uk for September 2025 to August 2026, so its area is not counted. No England and Wales rate is shown, because these figures do not cover every force for every month of this window. The methodology lists the months each force is missing.

Police force areas ranked by published crime rate
Published street-crime records per 1,000 residents counted in the Census 2021, each force's last 12 published months, as each force's page shows them. This ranks rates, not safety: a residents-only rate reads high where many people visit and few live, such as a city centre. How this ranking is built. For every force in alphabetical order, see crime by police force area.

How these figures differ from official crime statistics
The figures on this page cover September 2025 to August 2026. For the official statistics, see the Office for National Statistics' latest Crime in England and Wales bulletin. It counts crime differently, over a year that can end in a different month, so its totals will not match these. Its two main measures are:
- Police recorded crime: the crimes recorded by the 43 forces and British Transport Police, grouped by offence. Anti-social behaviour is counted separately from the crime total, while the figures on this page include it.
- The Crime Survey for England and Wales, which asks people about crimes they experienced, whether or not they reported them. ONS calls it the best way to track long-term trends in common crimes such as theft.
The bulletin also reports fraud and computer misuse, from Report Fraud (formerly Action Fraud). data.police.uk publishes no fraud or computer misuse offences, so the figures on this page include none.
Limits to keep in mind
- Police locations are approximate.
- These figures add up the 43 police forces of England and Wales. British Transport Police and Northern Ireland are left out.
- Our tables hold no street-level crime records from Gloucestershire Constabulary for February 2026, March 2026, April 2026, May 2026, June 2026, July 2026, August 2026, so its area is not counted in those months.
- Greater Manchester Police published no street-level crime records on data.police.uk for September 2025 to August 2026, so its area is not counted.
- No England and Wales rate is shown, because these figures do not cover every force for every month of this window.
- Street-crime records are recorded crime and anti-social behaviour published by the police, not all crime experienced. Recent months may be revised.
